Community event conjures up conversation while helping isolation vanish in Greenock
A magician helped make isolation and loneliness disappear when he performed at a Soup and Blether event at Larkfield.
The regular Soup and Blether events are held to unite communities, combat loneliness, give those in attendance life skills and boost their wellbeing. The latest took place at Larkfield Community Hall in Greenock on Thursday, 21 March.
Magician Phil Clark, who is also a Sales Development Manager for Plumbase and Graham, performed a series of spellbinding illusions that captivated the audience. There was also a fun and interactive game highlighting sustainability's importance. The final activity focused on the cost of living, as participants guessed whether an item was sold by a budget supermarket or a more upmarket retailer.
Sarah Smith, Link Group Director of Communities and LinkLiving Chief Executive Officer, said: “Community cohesion and connection is so important, and events such as these regular free Soup and Blether activities play an important part in helping build new relationships through providing opportunities for people to enjoy a warm meal and a chat.
“Activities such as learning how to manage a budget, cooking, and having the confidence to meet new people make such a difference in people’s lives. Seeing the positive reception to the sustainability game from those in attendance is also really satisfying. It’s a really important issue, and I hope people who have attended the event will see how small, sustainable lifestyle changes can make a big impact.”
Link Group would like to thank Plumbase and Graham for generously donating the soup makers which were given to attendees as prizes.
